MILESTONES IN MUSIC: MINOR THREAT

In 1982 I returned to public school, after a short stint at a private school for chronic fuck ups. It was here, with the general public, that I got reaquaited with some old friends who's musical tastes had veared off from the shit that we grew up with. They introduced me to a whole new world of music. PUNK MUSIC.

Sure, I knew what punk was...sort of. I liked Joe Jackson and Elvis Costello. I even owned a Clash 7". But I'd never been exposed to The Hardcore Scene. And it was just the thing that this suburban dipshit needed. I loved it. It was immediate. It was personal. It was going to see and support my friend's bands.

At the time Richmond had a pretty healthy hardcore scene with a handfull of worthwhile bands (more on that in the future). And this led to plenty of bands stopping to play on their way to, or from, D.C.

Which brings us to MINOR THREAT. Okay, the blogsphere may be cluttered with Minor Threat posts, but this is about what shaped me, right? Plus, I've got pictures. Pictures of me...watching Minor Threat. Yeah, I'm in there.

The song speaks for itself. Minor Threat - Salad Days.mp3

If anyone @ Dischord objects to my posting this, let me know and I'll take it down. Everyone else should just go buy the Complete Discography. 26 songs for $10 or $12. What a bargain.
